Mel didn't normally like to have to issue an order to report to her but when she had learnt that the new security officer was a hybrid of Klingon and Orion both her professional curiosity and personal concerns about pheromones got peaked. After what they had just been through the last thing she wanted was a malfunctioning inhibitor causing havoc on the ship.

"Computer display Ensign Verona's vitals." she told the biobed getting it prepped ready.

After a moment, the biobed display brought up the requested information, "Sher'ra Verona, Ensign, current assignment USS Copernicus as Chief of Security. Known medical conditions; over active secondary pheromone gland. Treatment administered by Chief Medical Officer Starbase 212. Medication prescribed to combat and suppress pheromone production. Most recent scan indicates effectiveness of prescribed medication has reduced by 26.2%. Recommended procedures; increase dose of medication or implant an inhibitor device as designed by Starfleet Medical" the computer responded as it displayed the most recent medical scan of the patient.

Mel muttered. "Well planting an inhibitor is my choice. Been awhile since I did surgery,"

The Trill waited for the Ensign to appear for her appointment.

walking into Sickbay, Sher'ra looked around the small space. To be honest, she was more accustomed to sickbay being larger than a few bio beds and an office, though she'd spent most of her Starfleet career on starbases. Spotting someone in a medical uniform, she figured that this person would be the best place to start, "um, excuse me. i'm here for my medical check up. who should i speak to?"

"Me," Melanie said walking round. It was not hard to spot a Klingon/Orion hybrid. "Doctor Melanie D'BrooNi. Nice to meet you Ensign. Please take a seat," she indicated a free biobed.

“Nice to meet you to Doctor” Sher’ra replied, hopping up onto the indicated biobed.

"How are you settling in?" she asked her. Hoping she was not going to mention or ask about the tradegy that had beheld the last crew. Mel wasn't sure she was up for talking about that yet.

“As well as can be expected. I’m hoping that Chef won’t mind some help from time to time” Sher’ra replied, choosing to avoid any discussion of the former crew. She knew the survivors would need some time to cope with what they’d been through, “I’ve never been on a ship this small before, I’m going to have to find the best paths onboard for morning runs.”

"I hear you there. I just end up running laps round the deck where my quarters is," Mel commented. "You could programme a run in one of the holodecs though," the Trill suggested operating the biobed readings. "So you cook Ensign?"

Sher’ra nodded, “yep, my parents run a mixed Klingon-Federation restaurant on Starbase 212 and I learnt a lot helping them out, so now I try to keep my skills up whenever I can”

"That sounds really interesting. I have a host who used to like Klingon food," The trill told her. "And Im sure some of the folks round here would love to sample whatever you can whip up with chef."

"that's what I'm hoping, I plan on taking over the Kitchen in the mess hall after all" Sher'ra replied with a big smile.

"So your phermone levels. There a little out. I am going to need to adjust your inhibitor but actually I would rather replace it with much better model. Its not a long procedure. I can do it now if you want or we can schedule it this week," she told her. "I know with your biology you have a history of Phermone levels being too high and flipping around all over but the model I want to put in I can link to the computer to monitor levels with a specially set up programme and update the dosages from that. It should be good for ten years at least meaning less of me or another doctor needing to tweak things."

Sher'ra looked confused, "um, I don't have an implant for my Pheromones. I take daily medication with this" she said, pulling out a small hypospray from her pocket, "i can replicate the medication from the replicators in my quarters"

"Its been Federation standard to have inhibitors implanted for the last 7 years. Who was this doctor?" Mel demanded. "I'm going to have to report them. The potential for self error is just too high if your not a medic and your readings are off. I am going to have to insist that we get you implanted straight away."

Sher'ra's confusion only increased as the doctor spoke, "um, it was Doctor Andrews on Starbase 212. From what I heard last time I was there, he'd retired years ago. As for the implant, if you think it is the best way to go, than I won't object"

"Glad to hear that Ensign," Caroline said. If she hadn't of complied she could have been removed from duty. Starfleet took the whole potential misalignment of phermones and what could follow that very seriously. She made a note of that name ready for whatever she felt needed to be addressed there.

"Well," she smiled taking the hypospray off her. "You won't need to do this daily anymore. We will only need a 6 monthly meeting to restock the drug in the device and that's a 5 minute thing. "Come on. Its not busy here yet. We can get this sorted right now. Its microsurgery. You won't feel a thing or be able to see an difference."

"Your my first surgery in the newly rebuilt sickbay," she told her. "Red or blue?" she asked replicating two gowns.

“I think blue would be better, red makes me look like a Christmas decoration” Sher’ra answered, taking the offered robe, “so, do you want me to change here or in your office? I’m fine either way but just for the sake of those who aren’t as comfortable seeing nudity”

"Well actually I was going to change in my office and let you change here," Mel said. "But I'm a doctor. Believe me I have seen everything going both outside and inside the body. I'll see you in a minute."

Giving a slight smile at the doctor's response, Sher'ra started to change into the medical gown. While she still had misgivings about the implant, it was the kindness of a medical officer that inspired her to join starfleet in the first place so she figured she should trust this doctor's decision.

"Ok," Mel said returning having picked the red herself. "Lay down. This is only going to take a couple of minutes. You shouldn't feel a thing. I can of course knock you out if your not comfortable." She didn't expect her to take that option with her being half Klingon but she offered it out non the less.

hopping up onto the biobed, Sher'ra laid down took a deep breath to prepare herself, "am I going to have to worry about the implant braking down in the field?"

"Nope it shouldn't do. I mean if you get into some sort of crazy circumstances who knows but easy fixable again." she answered administering her some thing numbing her arm after ensuring a sterile area around them. "Your not planning on getting into any crazy circumstances are you Ensign?" she asked while making her first cut in the ladies arm.

Feeling a slight tugging sensation, but no pain, Sher’ra smiled, “well, I am Chief if Security. Crazy Circumstances is kinda the job description, especially if our Captain chooses to go on any away missions”

"Ahh yes you will have to keep an eye on him," Mel joked as she implanted the device. She pulled out another tool and leaned slightly closer in aligning it correctly then started calibrating it with the computer. "Well nice to meet you chief. I'm nearly done. Just to close you back up."

She grabbed a further tool and started knitting back together her tissue and skin. A mild itch followed and then a cooling feeling. "There we go you are all done. No more replicating medicine."

sitting up straight, Sher'ra gave her arm a little bit of a rub, "Thank you doctor. guess I won't need this anymore" she said, putting her hypospray down onto the bed beside her, "sorry for being such a bother"

”Its no bother, ” Mel told her. ”That was an easy procedure. Now let's just check out the everything else. How are you feeling in general Ensign?” she asked.

“Confused, exited, anxious, a little hungry” Sher’ra answered jokingly. She knew those were not the responses the doctor was expecting, but keeping things a little light and fluffy never hurt. “And a little lop sided, I mean I now have an implant in one arm but not the other”

Mel kept her face deadpan. "I can implant something else in the other if its really causing you issues. Even things out?"

Sher'ra gave a sigh, "geez, sarcasm mustn't be covered in the medical course"

"I'll work on it Ensign," Mel said amused. "Okay your good to go. I'll sign you off. I have enough on scans to see everything else looks okay unless there is anything you want to tell me?"

Sher’ra shook her head, “nope, got nothing else for ya. So long as the implant works as advertised I’ll try to keep out of your hair”
