ON:

Mel couldn’t wait to get out of the Q debrief. Pretty much everyone had been unsettled. But the most unsettling had been his comment of a little Tkon was in her. She knew that machine had been changing her but to here it announced out load in the words of Q was something else.

It wasn’t just the senior crew unsettled though. Hal was screaming. The rest of her hosts all debating and weighing in all through the meeting. They made monsters, were monsters and now what if this baby was a monster Hal was repeating over and over and over.

Leiko wasn’t helping chiming in that even if the baby was relatively normal she was older now and would get fat and alienate her “hunk” of a husband and if by some miracle that didn’t occur she would be exhausted looking after a baby as let’s face it Keiben was the Captain and he would always be in this room making important decisions ……

People were filtering out finally and she could just tell Keiben had picked up some stray host chatter. “I need a drink,” she said finally when it was just those two left then stopped …”oh I can’t drink…”

"Not the real stuff anyway" Keiben said as he returned from the replicator with two glasses of replicated Spring Wine and a bowl of her favorite, Mopa Fruit in bite sized pieces.

"I'm also going to hazard that you haven't had anything to eat today... and I am disregarding everything the others are saying" as he kissed her forehead.

"Now eat before I make that an order!"

Mel nodded taking the fruit gratefully. "Thank you but .... Keiben what if they are right. What if this baby, due to whatever they did to me is different?"

"Lets not worry about if's and maybe's. Lets just enjoy the moment and whatever comes we deal with... as a family!"
He nudged the bowl of fruit towards her, lifting a single eyebrow ever so slightly in a very Vulcan manner. "Now eat!"

She took a piece of the fruit and sank her teeth into it.

~How can the beefcake not be worried~ Leiko stated. ~you likely have a quasi alien baby growing inside you. Hell it might kill you birthing it~

Mel chewed the fruit as loudly as possible in an attempt to drown them out.

~Change the subject~ she wasn’t sure which host it was but was grateful.

“Tay sent a communique. He wants to come here for a bit. He said he had a surprise,” she told him after swallowing the fruit.

"Of course, I can always use a Cadet on station for a time if he wanted to make it part of his Academy placement?" Kei reached out a hand and squeezed Mel's, silent affirmation that he had heard what the previous host's had said. "I am worried, but I have to stay strong and I know you... You can beat through this.... whatever it is that's happening to you."

"I know," she said. "They are just opinionated and loud," she stated deliberatly for her hosts.

"And it would be an Ensign. Tays completed the academy but not yet got a commission in place. Hes been aiding the security professors instead. We think hes stuck around because of ... well hes not offically stated it but Peter and I strongly believe he and Seleya ... are together," she said.

"Seleya... as in Peter's daughter?" Kei said as he leaned in being drawn in by a little bit of gossip, something he would be seeing less of now given his new rank and position.

“When we served together on the Phoenix, Tay was already very fond of her. Peter was considering the Vulcan ritual to bond her with someone. It upset him greatly. I knew at that moment he loved her but they were so young.

When mum got sick, and we had to move back to be with her it was heartbreaking to part them and I know for a few years there was the odd subspace and distance did it’s usual thing but I knew he never forgot her. They met again of course at the academy,” she smiled, “but he’s kept plenty close to his chest. If Paddy wasn’t there with them spying for me right now I’d know nothing,” she grinned.

"Well... You tell him that if he ever wants a real posting I can request him..." already seeing more than a few spaces for him within the crew be it on the station or one of the assigned craft.

"There is something i need you aware of as well Commander!" Keiben turned formal, indicating to her that this was now Starfleet business. "Starfleet Intelligence has made me aware of several intercepted communiques between a Romulan faction not to distant from us and the Nico Backta Cartels. What little they have managed to decipher" he slipped a small PADD across the desk to Mel, "indicates that the Cartels have sold large quantities of biological samples that may have been stolen from a cold station about five parsecs away and enough components to lead them to believe this Romulan Faction is producing, or about to start producing some kind of biological weapon that could feasibly contaminate a biosphere with any number of genetically modified pathogens... not least of all being Symbaline Blood Burn".

He paused, allowing her a moment to let the information absorb and be processed.

"Well that's not good," Mel stated simply. "Can we get information on the samples. So we can start studying to try counteract a biological weapon?"

"There is a meeting booked for the morning... I want you and that Lyras fellow there!"

"Of course," Mel said. She popped another ball of Mopa fruit in her mouth. She mentally made a note to research Symbalene blood burn.

"Is there anything further sir? Or shall I see you after shift?" she added once she had chewed it.

"Come here!" he pulled her to him, wrapping his arms around her.

Mel smiled and allowed her husband to embrace her relaxing for a moment into his strong arms . "I promise I will eat more later. I had a big breakfast. Oh talking of, your brother. We haven't seen Osil in a bit so why don't I set up breakfast with him?"

"I'll organise something for tomorrow morning... Now you finish your fruit... I need to get on!"

He kissed her on the forehead before begrudgingly letting her go and setting forth to continue his day.
