Keiben had spoken to Brook and had a very successful meeting with his new Yeoman, as with the good old days of Starfleet, it also seemed to have lifted the young girls spirits a little. Beyond that it was a starting point. He hoped that eventually she would want to join Starfleet and put to use her inherent talents. Until then he intended to put her to work, get her accustomed to life on a Starship and to that end she and he were on the way to the mess hall for their late lunch meeting with Lieutenant Holt.

"Now, make sure you keep up to date with mine and Tams diaries, we need you to act as Yeoman to both of us... If it becomes to much though you let us know."

Charlie nodded. She liked the sound of yeoman and intended to do a good job. ”No problem.”

Tam had caught the scent of something good, and she had to follow her nose. That is where she met up with the others. "Boy something sure smells good." she stated with a smile.

Keiben lead the group into the mess hall and immediately the smell hit them and it was mouth watering. He spotted his Security Chief, a table in front of her facing away from the main part of the mess hall... was she cooking?

"Ensign?"

Hearing someone behind her, Sher'ra turned around to face the three of them, "ah, Captian, Lieutenant, Yeoman. Welcome to the mess hall"

"See, news travels fast on a small ship" Keiben teased young Charlie as he playfully nudged her with his elbow

”Smells great. You know my mum can't cook for toffee, ” Charlie grinned taking a seat.

"And I've tried her toffee... Made a very useful deck plating adhesive though!" again Keiben nudged at Charlie with his elbow.

"Very nice." Holt said, towards Verona.

"is there something I can get for you?" Sher'ra asked

"What do you have cooking currently?" Tamaska asked", It smells delicious." walking over to see what Verona had there.

“Oh it’s nothing special. Just a recipe I picked up from Sisko’s on earth” she said as she quickly turned around and scooped some into a small bowl. “Here, why don’t you try some” turning back around, Sher’ra offered the three of them some ravioli cooking in some kind of creamy sauce. Holding the bowl in one hand, Sher’ra held out three forks on top of a clean hand towel for them to use.

Keiben accepted two bowls and passed one down to Charlie before taking the utensils. It smelt delicious and he was thankful he had missed lunch. His first bit was a cavalcade of sensations and flavours, it was just as delicious as it smelt.

"Ensign, I'm starting to think I offered you the wrong job... I should have taken you on as ships cook!"

“You may not say that when I tell you what’s in it” Sher’ra said, with a cheeky smile, “the sauce is a mixture of cream, garlic, egg and purée of Ferengi tube grubs and the Ravioli is stuffed with Targ meat”

"Ooh! Yummy, I'll have seconds if there is any" Tamaska said after taking a bite. "This is so delicious!"

"Same here... Don't forget Ensign I'm Betazoid, nothing shocks us... we get married naked!"
Keiben handed his bowl over for a second serving as he turned his attention back to Lieutenant Holt. "I have good news, Charlie has agreed to stay on as an assistant but I'm expanding her duties, she will be our Yeoman, manage our diaries, run reports to and frow, the usual things but I want to expand on her educational side, maybe put her with Chief Stoun if he agrees to tutor her in Starfleet protocol... give her a bit of a head start should she choose to apply to Starfleet Academy!"

Retrieving a second serving for each of the officers, Sher’ra turned to the newly christened Yeoman, “the academy is a lot of hard work. Just make sure you know where you want to go and keep on that track”

"Thank you," Charlie nodded at the half klingon. "I will certainly keep that in mind. I have no idea what specialty I would be suited too if I did go to the academy. My brothers actually just joined up doing security though. Do I get a uniform now then if I'm a yeoman?" she asked.

"I like the idea of having a yeoman." Looking at Charlie, "And I think she'd be great at it. Hmnn... a uniform. I don't see why not." Tamaska looking towards Keiben."What do you think? Would make things official."

"We need to check on the regs on that one" Keiben mumbled through another mouthful of the food Sher'rah had handed him. It really was delicious. "I think a combadge is certainly needed... Ensign Verona, would you be able to sort Yeoman Brooks in that regard?"

"It just came to my mind that there is an ROTC program that Charlie would fit in the age group. She would be considered a cadet, and have said uniform along with the commbadge. All she needs is to have Mel give approval and make it official. The program tends to be during the summer time for those 12 to 17 years old." she looked at Charlie, "What do you think?"

Charlie smiled excitedly. ”I think we just need to convince mum. You will all help me?” she asked.

"I know I will do my best." Tamaska answered with a smile.

Sher’ra nodded, “I think a combadge and uniform would be a good look, but what colour? Red, Gold, Teal, Green, Grey?”

"I would say, red since she will be our Yeoman." she looked at Haistro. "What do you think? It would represent whom she will be working with?"

"Very well, but if any Admirals come on board they will have my hide if they catch you in uniform!" he warned not only Charlie but the other conspirer's. "I suppose the next hurdle is Mel... Who wants that tangle?"

“Mel? Who is that?” Sher’ra asked as she started preparing ingredients for her next creation. She wasn’t sure what it was going to be yet, but it kept her hands busy.

"My mother," Charlie answered the Klingon hybrid.

"if I remember correctly, personnel problems fall to the XO" Sher'ra said with a smirk on her face.

Tamaska quirked an eyebrow up then nodded in acknowledgement. "That is true, I will go talk to Mel. Also the uniform will be a jumpsuit which will indicate her status as a participant of the ROTC program. Where in they do need to wear uniforms." she took a final bite of her food. I shall go and speak to her now." giving a lingering look at the food. "And perhaps a plate of food as well?"

Charlie looked excitedly at the XO, ”Thank you. All of you for giving me a chance as a yeoman.”

Tam retrieved a plate from Verona, was ready to leave the mess hall when she paused. "Charlie, is your mom in Medical or in your Quarters?"

"Probably quarters, she has the day off. Although that didn't stop her harassing you with something this morning did it captain," she said keeping her face neutral, so not to bring up the fact he had answered the door in a towel.

"It was no bother... all part of being the Captain" he took the napkin and wiped at his face until the burning cheeks faded, not wanting to show anything more to his officers. "Besides, once you are in uniform, I'll be having you handle all of my meetings" he again smiled and rubbed her head in an almost fatherly manner. "Tam, if I can leave it with you to speak to Mel... Take Ensign Verona with you armed if needs be!"

"I really don't think I need to take Verona with me to talk with Mel."Tamaska chuckled.

Sher’ra nodded, “I’m sure a security escort won’t be needed. The XO is capable enough to handle a possibly hysterical mother”

Tam looked at Sher'ra, "Oh believe me, she's not the hysterical type." a brief flash of memory on just how strong Mel was during the...crisis. "Yup, not the hysterical type at all."

"Now if you will excuse me, I have a few reports to file and I want to spend a bit of time on the bridge... settle in a bit."
He nodded his farewells to everyone but before he left he turned back to the small group. "Ensign... have a word with Chief Stoun and have him get a team to install a real kitchen in here... Could be a nice touch as we are so small a craft!"
And with that, he left.

Tamaska soon followed after Haistro, carrying food to give to Mel, and talk with her about Charlie.

Sher’ra’s face lit up with excitement at the idea of designing her own kitchen. Starfleet’s standard design was so boring and sterile. “Oh I think the Captain is going to regret giving me that request”

Tam paused at the door, "Oh just make certain your ideas will fly with the rest of us." giving a cheeky grin at Sher'ra. "Just remember there are others that can cook." after that comment Tam disappeared from view.
