Mission: Episode 4 - The Fires Of Hades
Location: USS Cerberus, Mess Hall
Timeline: Mission Day -584,947 @ 1100 Hours

It felt different, being on a starship again. Somehow, it made Lyras feel more at home than being on a station. The thrumm of the engines through the deckplates, and somehow, it was quieter. At least, that's how Lyras perceived it.

When he was given the opportunity to serve as medical officer on the ship that was dispatched from the station, Lyras had grabbed the chance rather eagerly. He seemed more relaxed as he walked into the mess hall, his blue eyes scanning the area, looking for a place to sit once he got his meal from the replicator.

Even though it was quieter than the promenade - obviously - there were still plenty of people deciding to take their break at the same time. Yet, he spotted a small but vacant table just near the windows, a place he did like to be as it gave him the opportunity to just stare off in space, and literally zone out for a few minutes.

"Ensign, my apologies!" the towering humanoid said after bumping into the smaller Vulcanoid being. "I did not see you I was so caught up in my thoughts... As there are few seats left would you mind if I joined you?"

Is'san waved a hand at the table in an almost poetic manner noting the two chairs opposite each other. "If I may!"

Lyras turned to look up at the much taller alien, and couldn't help but briefly gawk at him. "Uhm... sure," he answered as he tried to regain some of his composure before sitting down himself. "Who am I to deny you a seat, sir.." He placed his tray on the table but continued to stare even if it might be considered rude. "Where are you from?" he inquired curiously, never having seen one like him before.

"I am from Kaminar. There are very few of us in Federation history that have joined Starfleet. I had to educate Doctor D'BrooNi during my physical examination... A very pleasant woman but I must admit I sensed something peculiar about the good Doctor!"
Is'san lowered himself into the chair closest to himself, bending his double kneed legs and pushing the chair back slightly to give him enough legroom.

"I have never heard of Kaminar," the young doctor answered uncertainly while watching the man maneuver himself into a seated position, "I have never seen anyone like you before, nor heard of your species. Please... tell me more?"

"I believe most of the historical data is in the Starfleet database Ensign if you wish to know more... or are you curious to hear it from the Kelpian perspective?"
Is'san asked, gently tilting his head to one side and allowing his matt pale blue eyes to regard the young man with a keen interest but also exuding warmth with everything about him.

"I did not know your kind existed until... just now," Lyras confessed, "there are a great many species in this time, that were not yet known in my time. Despite having been in this time for about a year now, there is still a great deal I do not know." He paused a moment. "From your perspective, I am technically over one hundred and fifty years old."

"I understand," he said gently nodding his head, his lips curling in a vague smile. "In that case Ensign, what do you wish to know!"

"Everything?" the young doctor carefully said as he studied the man, giving him a quick once over. "You are clearly humanoid but so vastly different..." He tilted his head. "You seem flighty, but also extremely friendly. Please... tell me more about your kind."

"We were a dominated species for many centuries. Lead to believe that we were of a prey origin. That was a lie but over time we learned to live with our oppressors, the Ba'ul. I will eventually go through a metamorphosis that will strip me of my 'flighty' tendencies, as you so gently put it. We have eidetic memories and exceptionally well balanced to learn at a slightly more accelerated rate than most humanoid species and we can travel at great speeds under our own locomotion also!"
Gently waving a hand in the air as he spoke, as if conducting an orchestra while his other hand picked up the fork and speared a tomato.

"I can only go on what I observe," Lyras explained patiently while watching the speed with which the other was being moved. "Why were you considered prey, and what is a Ba'ul?" He tilted his head, arching a single eyebrow in question. "And what will you turn into, if you are stripped of your tendencies? Are they harmful, that you need to change into something else?"

"The universe is a wonder to you is it not Ensign... You enjoy discovering and understanding?"
Finally putting the tomato in his mouth and started his meal.

"To a degree," Lyras answered with a smile, "I do have a century and a half to catch up on and I cannot do that in mere months. So yes, there is a lot to discover and a great deal to learn and understand." He realized the man had not answered his questions and he wondered if he was just unwilling to, or didn't consider it important enough. Carefully, the Vulcan hybrid sipped his tea as he observed the man eat his tomato.

Just then, Commander Carter's voice came over the comm. "This is the bridge. We've picked up an unknown ship on sensors and are moving to investigate. As a precaution, we're going to yellow alert. All hands to duty stations."

"Duty calls!" Is'san said with an apologetic nod. "As for your question... I have a book, written in my native tongue that details the history of Kaminar, my home planet. If you would care to borrow it then you may. Although I would suggest utilizing the computer's linguistic subroutines to assist you in translating it!"

"I would rather hear it from you," Lyras commented, "when you have time." He stood, waiting for the other alien to stand as well, suddenly realizing something. "You have never given me your name," he chuckled, "nor I you mine. I am Lyras..."

"Is'san... although my friends do call me San!"
