Mission: Episode 3 - Fear Is Fear Itself
Location: Starbase 308, USS Zambezi
Timeline: Mission Day 4 @ 1700 Hours

ON:

"Computer, time?"

Hiro waited for the computer to respond while the Turbo lift brought him ever closer to the place where the USS Zambezi, a Yellowstone class ship, was docked within Starbase 308.

"Time is 09:35 hours"

There should be enough time left to run a pre-flight check before the others same on board. Or so Hiro guessed. It had been a while since he last piloted a ship.

The lift stopped and the doors opened with a hiss. Right in front of him was docking port 152-D34. Stepping out of the lift he walked over to the access panel and entered his personal access code. Another, larger, door slid open which finally gave access to the Runabout.

Wasting no time, Hiro sat himself down in the pilot seat and starting the pre-flight checks. It was good that a large portion of it was automated, else he would've needed more than the half hour he had left.

Liam walked into the small bridge area followed by his wife and step sisters family. Teena he had noticed was really struggling now. She seemed ready to pop. “Well someone’s got to say it. This is an odd situation.”

Tyrion was doing his best to support Teena, a supportive arm around her waist, while having a little girl by the hand as well. He too was struggling, but he was -in his mind anyway- doing the best he could do. His relationship with Tom had been on an ultimate low with the man having less and less time for him. And the more he thought about it, despite loving him he owed all his attention to Teena now. Even though he had counted on being divorced months ago, somehow, they had made things work between the four involved in the relationship. And now...anyone who thought he was going to divorce a very pregnant woman, he would declare them nuts. "Very odd," he agreed as he helped Teena inside and into a seat.

Melinda too stepped inside, holding Rowan by the hand, while carrying Miri on the arm. "Daddy!" the little boy called, rushing forward. "Can I help?" he asked, already reaching out towards the various controls.

Hiro turned his chair and smiled when he saw Rowan running towards him. "Heeey, there's my little Captain! Sure, come sit on the chair next to me. I'll tell you what buttons you can push. Just don't touch anything else."

The five year old squealed with glee as he hopped into the chair, resting tiny hands on the controls. He gave his father a serious nod, his blue hair bobbing as he did so. "Yes daddy," he promised.

Kaylee wrapped an arm around Liam's waist and gave him a light squeeze. "We've got a full house and I am loving it, talk about an adventure and a brand new start for all of us."

"Room for two more?" Iy'dan stepped into the runabout bridge compartment, Vincent following in his wake. "We were bound to meet the Andromeda when I heard you had all been pulled together by Starfleet... They asked me to join you!"

Iy'dan smiled at Kaylee and Liam, glad to have another friend on board with him and Liam, although he didn't know him well it was not disagreeable to see him. "Everyone this is Vincent... Trained civilian medic!"

Liams eyes flicked to the newcomer. Medic. This was a good development. “Welcome Vincent. And Iy’dan we will get you to the Andromeda but it might be a little later. Don’t worry though my brothers your new Captain so I’ll smooth over anything there and another couple of pairs of hands is a blessing.”

He squeezed Kaylees hand and then took the command seat. It felt very strange. Very strange indeed. “We have been ordered to undertake a rescue mission. Supplies have already been loaded. I’m not sure why we only get a runabout or what we are rescuing people from. And the supply list I got to look at, looked more like some basic colony prefabs were involved which also makes zero sense.

But I’ve been issued coordinates where we are going. I could only manage to piece together there's a Cardassian link in this all. And I overheard that when I shouldn’t of done,” he told them honestly.

There was a slight crashing sound and a low groan as their final passenger seemed to literally trip into the runabout. Lyras shook his head as he drawled back to his feet, casting the rest an embarrassed smile. "Am I too late?" he asked as he dusted himself off. "I assure you I am not usually this...uncoordinated."

“No problem Lyras. Glad to have you along,” Liam said. “Well if we are all here … any questions … I might not be able answer though. Kaylee and I are as much in the dark of things as everyone right now.”

"The station Commander said something about the USS Yosemite and the USS Copernicus seemingly going missing in the same area of the Briar Patch and something about a Cardassian energy reading... Thats all I know!"

Iy'dan offered as he slung his bag to the back of the bridge compartment and dropped down into a seat just behind Liam. "I'll take the sensors and see if I can draw any more data from Starbase Three Zero Eight as we make our way!"

Liam nodded. “Kaylee you take security and by the goddesses let’s hope we don’t need them weapons. Mel/Lyras/Tyrion you wanna get in some bridge experience? Pick a station. Anything you can do is a huge help. Vincent if you wouldn’t mind makeshifting a medical area just in case? Let’s go rescue some folks ehh.”

Kaylee took the security station, not feeling the normal anxiety she had felt earlier. This was a good sign.

Lyras hesitated. "I believe I am better suited to help Mr Vincent in setting up a medical area."

"Come on then let's get cracking, Mr. Lyras." Vincent said with a smile, giving a smile towards Iy'dan then towards Lyras. "Right this way." heading in that direction.

Tyrion on his part smiled. "I'll take tactical," he offered, "or I can take any operations system....I know more about computers than I do about shooting things." His smile turned sheepish. "If Teena doesn't need me, obviously."

"I'll take care of the children here," Melinda offered, "not much a botanist can do on a small ship like this."

After Rowan had activated the last command the pre-flight check was done. Moving closer to him, Hiro smiled and gave him a wink. "Well done, el Capitán. I think mommy is waiting for you now." he said softly.

Rowan giggled and went back to join his mother and sister.

“And I’ll sort out some drinks out,” another voice rang out behind them all. Liam smiled and nodded at the half Orion's appearance exchanging a smile with Kaylee. Niska wasn’t lost from their little family after all.

“Hiro,” Liam said settling into the chair. “Plot course and Take us out when your ready,”

Hiro turned his chair once more, this time to face his friend and current CO the ship. "Aye sir." he said and smiled. He turned back and entered the commands that would free the ship from the station's docking location. "Starbase 308 cleared us for leaving and wishing us good luck. Releasing docking clamps..."

A few minutes later the USS Zambezi was clear of the Starbase and flying on half impulse.

"Course laid in, Captain." It sounded a bit strange to call Liam Captain, but that was the rank used for someone who commanded a ship.

“Engage,”
