Mission: Episode 2 - Echoes Of An Empire
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD5

ON:

Mel was going to busy for a fair while sorting out medicals for all the new crew. She was trying to ensure the command team had all had theirs. Looking at her list the science chief was due.

She had only met him the once so far at the briefing so was curious to find out a little more about him. He in first impression seemed the sort who was very organized and she was also supposed to be helping with this survey. She must ask him about coming down to brief all her staff about that and what he needed them to do.

As if summoned by her thoughts Junjie walked through the sickbay doors and briefly spoke to a nurse who pointed in her direction. " Dr. BrooNi I presume. We met very briefly during the crew mission briefing. I'm sorry it has taken me this long to come in, As a matter of routine when I transfer to a new ship I normally get my physicals out of the way. I prefer it this way so you don't have to worry about chasing me down." He smiled and hopped up on the edge of a bio bed. " Shall we get started?"

"Oh definitely Chief," Mel said thinking yes this was the sort of patient she liked coming in here. "I prefer not having to chase down too but I am a good runner so if needs must ..." she joked.

"Okay so how have you been feeling then? Anything I need to know?" she asked.

" A little tired now and then." He chuckled. But I'm afraid I know the cause of it. Sometimes I get wrapped up in a project that fascinates me and I lose track of time. So the cure for that is sleep. For sore muscles, strains and fatigue my last CMO she approved a holodeck acupuncture program for me and said I'm not to use it more then twice a week. That and I set aside time at the end of my day for some meditation to relax, other then that I pretty good I guess."

"Well if that's working for you I can approve the same," Mel said. "If you don't mind me asking what's the tattoo I can see poking out at the top of your neck?" she asked.

In response to the Doctors question Junjie peeled out of his uniform top revealing a tattoo that covered half his back. A horned demon with four arms bathed in fire and holding a Tai Chi sword in each one of it's four hands. Also noticeable was a 20 cm scar on his upper right bicep and a 14 cm scar on his left rib cage. He then paused for a moment. " You did want to see that right? I assumed you were asking as part of the physical. Correct?" he asked hoping he hadn't embarrassed her. " As a scientist and martial artist, one must exercise their mind as much as their body."

“Actually I was asking out of pure curiosity,” Mel said taking it all in. It was a strange deity. “Who is this then? And while we are here, you are going to have to talk me through both those scars please.”

"The Tattoo is a family crest of Jing Xi, The fire sword demon patron from about fifteen hundred years ago when my family started serving as Imperial knights to the Emperor of China. Both the scars I keep as reminders." He pointed to the one on his bicep. My grandfather was my Tai Chi sword master and this happened during my black belt test. It reminds me to never let my guard down. And this one." Pointing to the one on the ribs. " And this one was from from stupidity from trying to impress a girl. Well it worked. We dated for over a year until I went into the academy. A month later she sent me a dear john message and I never heard from her again. He shrugged his shoulders. " Better that way I guess."

"That chief is quite the family history. Wow the Imperial knights of the Emperor of China. I bet that's a fascinating culture and bit of history. What does a demon patron do?" she asked scanning his vitals.

"And the girl, I'm sorry. Maybe she will pop up again. I have 7 other life times inside me. You will be surprised how many loves can disappear and reappear when you least expect things. I'll make a note on both your life reminders," she termed them, "So I know not to ask you each time."

" China does have the oldest recorded culture on earth, So my family history does go back a ways. China has a proud history and list of achievements, But I am more proud of what we have done since the earth has united as one people." He took in a breath and exhale slowly. " As for the girl, I haven't seen her in years, That and there are plenty of other fish in the sea." he stated with a confident attitude. " I moved past her years ago, I wish her well but I'm just not interested in her anymore."

Mel nodded. “Very true. I will have to learn more about China. My late husbands family were British. I didn’t see much of Earth bar England and the academy.”

Junjie hesitated for a brief moment after listening to her last statement. " I am....So sorry to hear about your late husband. I hope that didn't dredge up any painful memories." He said with concern in his voice. " But Earth isn't the only planet in the federation that has interesting history, culture or people.
Your a Trill, correct? I don't know much more about Trill society then what is generally known. Your people must have quite an interesting culture and history."

"I am. Yes its a wonderful culture," Mel said simply.

"A secretive one," one of her hosts rang out in her head. "Which he doesn't need to know."

"Hopefully you will get to visit one day," Mel told him.

"I would like that. I understand the planet is rather beautiful and has many areas for Arts, Science and Culture, As well many libraries and museums. It is the top five planets I'd like to visit within the federation. I always love learning about different species and cultures." He said with a grin.

"Where im from is very nice. Tangusta. Its coastal. Some lovely fauna," Mel reminisced. "I was never that big on art but the science was always top notch. Ive had more than one host interested there."

Junjie stroked his chin. " Hmm...Interesting flora and fauna, coastal and science. Sounds like a lovely getaway for a science officer. Ok you sold me, Book me a room." He said with a grin.

“If we are lucky enough to ever be in the vicinity, I’ll show you round Chief. It’s the least I can do for your kind offer to tutor My daughter. I do hope she’s applying herself,” Mel said updating his file.

" Charlie is showing improvement already, She's a bright young lady who doesn't give herself enough credit. I guess that goes with the territory, Both my younger sisters went through the same thing at that age. Once she gains confidence in herself that will change." Junjie shook his head. " Im not really doing anything special. All I'm doing is simplifying the terminology to where it is easier to understand, Besides Charlie deserves all the credit since she is doing all the work."

Junjie thought for a few moments. “My reward in this endeavour is watching her face brighten up when she understands the problem and that she CAN do it on her own. Makes me feel like a proud older brother." He said warmly. " You have raised her quite well, And I know you are proud of her as you should be."

Mel thought about it for a moment. That was debatable at times. But that said out of the 12 children she had got to and through puberty, Charlie certainly wasn't the most troublesome. She opted to smile and say “Thank you Chief.

I think you look all good. I can pass you. Of course any issues come find me, ” she said bringing up the official paperwork.

" Thank you, We must do this again sometime." He said with a grin. " I promise I will come to you with anything medical related. Chief Stoun is a fine and good man, But I don't think I want him checking me to see what's wrong. Besides. I firmly believe your bedside manner is much nicer then his."

"Well to be fair its a different kind of bedside manner. That man talks to machinery and computers. People are very different. Take care Chief. I'm sure I will see you again soon."
