ON:

"Mum ... mum .... I think thats the last person. What do we do now?" the young teen asked.

Mel was just fixated staring at the pile of bodies in her office. How had this happened?

"Mum ...." she felt someone grab her arm and closed her eyes tight. "Honey sorry. I was just ...."

Charlotte didn't wait for an answer she just pulled her into a hug. "Im so glad Paddys not here."

She nodded patting the brunette hugging her tighter. She was the complete spit of her husband. Every day the same reminder that Ian had been taken from them.

"We wait now. The Captain ...."

"Haistro ..

"The Captain now Charlie. You call him Captain. He will send out a distress call. We wait and we find out what else we can do to help," she told her. She had to think in black and white. That was the only thing going to keep her going through this now. Order. There needed to be order.

"How do we forget that?" her youngest asked staring right at that pile of bodies. Mel opened her mouth but couldn't find the words. It seemed the the combined wealth of lives of her other hosts couldn't either.

Luckily there was movement and noise again. Every hope rose to more survivors. More people without a comm. badge or that the broken up scanners had failed to register flew through her. She turned around. It wasn't anyone familiar though. It was a Benzite. And one in a environmental suit as well.

"Lieutenant... Doctor?" The Benzite tentatively asked immediately seeing this Trill women was in shock. Nir'anyar had beamed over from the USS Merlin with a small collection of Medical Officers. They had beamed in to the corridor outside of sickbay and waited for the all clear from the team that had beamed to Engineering. Ensign Verona had managed to bring environmental systems back online across the battered ship so Anya and her team had removed the helmets of their EV Suits before entering sickbay.

It was clear that this ship had been through hell and back. Life signs had detected only sixteen out of the usual eighty crew normally found on a light science cruiser such as the Nova Class. Anya saw the girl clinging to this Lieutenants arm, scared, worried about her mother. Anya offered a smile to the girl before turning her attention back to the medical officer.

"Lieutenant can you hear me, can you understand me?"

"Yes," Mel said immediately.

"You answered the distress call?" the trill asked stepping in front of her daughter protectively. She hoped this was genuine but she couldn't shake the possibility that whoever attacked them could be coming in to "colourfully finish the job". It had come out of the blue so left wing. Blindsided them all and with no clue who had attacked or why.

"Name, ship and rank please?" she insisted firmly.

"Nir'anyar or Anya if you find it easier. I'm one of the Junior Doctors on the USS Merlin, Lieutenant Junior Grade".
She had started to run her Tricorder's handheld medical scanner over the Trill before her. Minor cuts and abrasions. A poorly healed laceration to her shoulder... all simple injuries that would not impact her health long term however the Doctor was in shock.

"We need to get you back to the Merlin Doctor, the life support systems here are failing... Please come with me!"

"I need to confirm your credentials," D'BrooNi said firmly.

"Mum she's really Starfleet. Look at her. Your just really tired," Charlie said.

"She could be the enemy Charlie for all we know, in disguise" Mel found herself saying. "Someone targeted us. Someone did all this. Tried to wipe us out. We are not going with anyone until I confirm they are who they say they are."

'We got a crazy one here!' ran rampant through Anya's mind like a klaxon that had been set too loud and she could see the Doctor was becoming more and more agitated with every passing second. Only a few steps behind her was a weapons locker also and the girl at the side of her mother was becoming distressed. Anya felt the security officer tense behind her, flexing as if ready to raise his weapon and fire on the poor women but she waved him down before digging around in her medical kit to find a hypospray.

"I'm here to help Lieutenant, I promise. The attack is over but we need to get you back to Merlin for treatment!"
Anya took a few tentative steps towards the Trill. "For food and water and for rest as well... Think about your daughter".

"I am thinking about my daughter," Mel demanded. "If your not who you say you are, your going to have to get through my dead body as the only way to get to her believe me.

And you can put that down. I see you," the Trill addressed the security man. "What kind of security man doesn't support checking some strangers who have just shown up after an attacks credentials. Are you sure your Federation?"

"Please let us help you... All we want to do is beam you over to the USS Merlin" Anya motioned for the security officer to lower his weapon and start to come round to the other side of the obviously distressed Doctor as she took a few more tentative steps forward.

Mel staggered slightly. The doctor in her knew her blood sugars were all over and she was exhausted, still running on adrenaline and that spiking but her memories of Leiko's kidnapping suddenly flashed up to haunt her. They had been pretending to be Starfleet too. Her prior host hadn't been powerful enough to ward them off but this host. She'd been the wife of a dam good security officer who had shown her a thing or too. "That's what they said last time, here to help .. oh no they just kidnapped me ..."

"Oh no Mum .... that's a host memory .... "

"Get out of my sickbay," Mel suddenly bellowed stuck between one reality and another.

Anya could see the tell tale indications of a pure and visceral fight or flight reaction... although because of her daughters presence it was likely to be the former rather than the latter. She edged her way to the left while the security officer went right, the hypo spray firmly in her grasp hidden from view in the bag.

Suddenly the Security guard feinted a sudden move to the right drawing the Trills focus for just enough time for Anya to swiftly move in and apply the hypo to the Doctors backside, the swiftest way to disperse the sedative through her system, but not quick enough to stop her from a brief retaliation.

Mel had been just quick enough to attempt a punch in the approaching security officers face when she felt the hypo spray and heard the hiss. "Charlie … run ...." was all she managed to get out before everything went dark.
