Mission: Episode 2 - Echoes Of An Empire
Location: Deck 5 - Astrometrics
Timeline: Mission Day 1 @ 1412 Hours

ON

"Number one, have you checked in with our new Chief Science Officer yet? Apparently he has been on board for some time".

Keiben caught his new First Officer before she could leave the Briefing room, not even giving her chance to go find a uniform that would better suit her new position, but also liked the way her new nickname rolled off the tongue - 'Number One'

"I haven't had the chance, didn't even know we had one already." her eyes widening. "Things certainly are moving quickly. Its a good thing but.. my head is spinning at how quickly things have changed, so far. Or maybe its the champagne on an empty stomach." giving a quick smile.

Junjie tapped his combadge. " Computer, please let the Captain and XO know that I am aboard and helping out with repairs in the science labs and astrometrics areas. End message."

The Captains and XO's combadges chirped. Message from Ensign Junjie Han. I am aboard the ship and am helping out with repairs in the science labs and astrometrics areas.

Keiben couldn't smother the smile that had blossomed across his face full appreciating the timing of the message.
"Speak of the devil... I think we have been summoned!"

"Well one thing I can say, he is already on the ball." Tamaska replied.

Keiben lead the way to the turbolift after leaving the briefing room, a very short walk which he filled with conversation, mostly around the different repairs that had happened and the few remaining repairs. He was eager to get the ship back out in space to continue the mission that had been started before the attack. The only difference now is that he was in command.

It was not long before the two had arrived at the primary science lab, a brand new facility for Copernicus as the old lab had been a number of years past needing a refit. The new lab was chocked fill of the latest tech which had updated the ships capabilities, the entire refit had managed that.
"Ensign Han?" Keiben enquired as he entered the lab.

Junjie heard his name and turned to greet to person. "Aye Sir! Reporting for duty." As he handed over the PADD with his transfer orders. " Captain, What happened to the ship? It looks like it was attacked. No one has attacked a federation science ship in ages. No one was hurt in the attack I hope."

"You may want to review the ships logs Ensign..." Keiben suggested, a harder tone entering his voice, something that suggested the Ensign should have already done this but Keiben knew also he was being a touch unfair. He just did not want to talk about what had happened again.

"Apologies Ensign, it was a very difficult time for the crew that returned to Starbase" he offered but still being somewhat vague about it all. "So Ensign, talk to me about the science division. I have been a little occupied the last week and have not been kept up to speed with the new additions and upgrades we've received".

"I'm....Sorry Captain. I was just so shocked when I saw the ship come in.....I'm Sorry." Junjie apologized. "I'll just read over the logs when I have the time to do so."

Junjie's demeanor switched from solemn to nearly excited as the topic of the upgrades came up. " Captain these upgrades have more then tripled the capacity of the department. This equipment should be far more then suitable enough for any task that we are assigned." He said almost beaming as pridefully as a new father talking about a new child.

"Excellent news!" Keiben had started to absently wander around the lab, feeling more comfortable here than he was on the bridge... He had yet to even try out the Captains Chair since the refit, something he was still reticent to do given his close ties with the previous Captain. Perhaps that needed to be his next stop, the bridge. He regarded Holt for a moment and assumed she was likely feeling the same as he about the bridge, had she even been up there to see how well her new position felt.

"You will be glad to know Ensign that our first assignment out of dock is one geared directly to the science division. It will be a planetary survey mission with heavy emphasis on the archaeology, planetology and biological sciences departments. I will be briefing the senior officers in the next day or so".

"It should prove to be interesting. Most definitely." And it was the truth, especially now that she was the XO. Which she will have to talk to Keiben about something. Away missions and how he was going to be working that out. "And welcome aboard. I am the XO so if you need something, you ask me as well."

Junjie grinned. " Now that sounds like a mission worthy of the science division and I am looking forward to it Sir. The science department is ready and waiting at your command. I will also submit reports as to how the new equipment is functioning after the mission is complete."

"It was a pleasure to meet you Ensign. Mission briefing tomorrow morning at zero nine hundred hours!"
He smiled at the young man... when did the senior officers start looking so young? With the exception of Chief Stoun he seemed to be the oldest person on the crew... well, with the exception of D'BrooNi, who knew how old Melanie's Symbiont actually was.
"Now, if you will excuse us we have one other place to visit!

" Aye zero nine hundred Sir." he acknowledged. Junjie gave a slight bow in respect. " Captain Haistro and XO Holt, It has truely been an honor to meet with you and to serve on your crew and shall do my best to assure we have one of the best rated science teams in the fleet Sir. I will see you at the mission briefing in the morning sir."

Keiben nodded his farewells to the young Officer and started the short walk to the turbolift which would then whisk both Holt and himself off to their final stop of their tour of the ship.
