Mission: Episode 1: Palingenesis
Location: Ward room

News of Keiben's death spread across the station like wildfire and Peter could just sense the unrest among the population. The Betazoid had been well liked if not loved by many and now left the station without a proper commander.

While now effectively in command, it was a position the Vulcan hybrid never really wanted to be and he knew he was going to need help. "Commanders Carter and Yoshida, please report to the ward room."

Carter was the first to arrive. With Keiben's death, the parasite that was infesting her also died. She had been given an exam by medical and cleared for duty but she was still not feeling like herself. Flashes of what she had done while under the influence of the parasite came to her every now and then and her dreams had taken on a decidedly nightmarish quality.

"Commander." She greeted him as she entered the Ward room.

Shortly after ‘Commander Carter arrived, Hiro enter the Ward room as well. His thoughts were all over the place, one moment thinking about the strange cause of dead of the station’s CO and the next about the impact Keiben’s death had on his department and how to keep things going. He had a feeling that this meeting with Commander Horn wouldn’t make things easier.

“You wanted to see us, Commander?” Hiro asked. The question itself was a little weird because the answer was obvious. But nothing else came to mind and he felt he had to say something.

The Vulcan nodded slowly. "Station operation must continue while we wait for Starfleet to send us a new station commander. I have no desire for such a position so they will need to find a replacement." He paused looking at each of them in turn. "It may seem disrespectful towards Commodore Haistro but I...feel...he would expect us to carry on."

He paused. "I believe a memorial service would be necessary, to pay him the respect he deserved. However as Doctor D'BrooNi has disappeared, and Lieutenant Haistro is too distraught to be of any assistance, I am not certain where to start. I am not familiar with Betazoid burial ceremonies."

Lilian nodded. "I agree, a memorial service would be appropriate. i do believe he has other family, I thought he mentioned his mother was an Admiral?"

“Commander, my wife is also Betazoid. I can ask her about the specifics concerning the burial ceremony used on Betazed, if you want.” He looked at Horn and calmly waited for his answer.

Peter nodded. "Yes, please do. Any help would be welcome. Additionally, perhaps we could turn this into something for the crew as well? A celebration of life perhaps, since not all cultures do memorials. Some celebrate a deceased's life instead, so why not entertain both! It may boost morale..."

“The least it will do is take their minds of the somber situation. For a while.” Hiro leaned against the wall as he continued. “Who among the officers on this station is a good organizer and is not too busy?”

"That is an extremely good question," Peter acknowledged, "scientists can go two ways, either they are extremely organized or they are the complete opposite. Intelligence are generally organized too." He paused."on earth this is a festive season, is it not? My wife always fusses about a tree and ornaments... perhaps something along those lines perhaps? A tree of lights to brighten these dark days?

Hiro looked at a random spot at the wall behind Commander Horn as he thought for a short while. “I think Chief Stoun and I can cobble something together. We can even do more I think. Creativity is not something our departments lack.”

Peter nodded. "Please see to it this station and its crew could use some brightness to focus on."

“Yes, sir. I’ll look up Stoun and assign a few Engineers on it.” Hiro answered and got ready to leave the Ward Room.

Lillian stood, somewhat uncomfortable with the memories talk of Keiben was bringing up.

"I have to continue overseeing the repairs to the Cerberus, Please excuse me." she inclined her head to them before as she made a swift exit.

Left behind on his own, Peter watched them leave before returning to OPS.
